April Is Ending

Dear Students,
Tomorrow is May first. Please write to me about any plans you have for the month of May. You only have two months left before you become 7th graders. What will you do to make the most of those two months?
Has anything wonderful or terrible happened to you lately?
Please make sure your blog entry is at least twelve sentences long.
Thanks and bye for now,
Mrs. Powers

April First Is Upon Us

Hello to my students,
You are now in the last term of sixth grade - WOW!!
Were you and your families happy with your Term 2 Report Card? How are your Term 3 goals different than your previous goals?
Tell me about April first. Do you know any tricks to play on people? Has anyone played a good trick on you?
Last year I fooled a lot of my friends with a pigeon trick; if you ask me to tell you about it, I will. :)
I'm looking forward to reading your comments, and I hope that you use good grammar and spelling. If you do, and if you write at least ten sentences, you'll earn an "A."
Sincerely,
Mrs. Powers

Early March Blog

Greetings Earthlings!
I have been enjoying your blogs. It was interesting to read the postings about your progress in school. Some people are pleased with their grades and seem to be developing good study habits. Others in the group realize that they should be doing better. That's a pretty smart thing to recognize! If those kids show up after school for extra help with me, Mr. Wolfson, and their other teachers, their grades will probably improve. Remember, folks, the term ends on March 20.
Today's blog is about the books you are reading. Right now my friends and I are reading a book called The Shack by Wm. Paul Young. It's clearly fiction because it is about a man who spends a weekend at a small house in the forest, and he spends it with God. So far I have learned that there's a major conflict between this man, Mac, and God. The man's ten year old daughter disappeared, and Mac blames God for not helping him find her. I predict that there will be a lot of surprises in this book! I am enjoying it so far, and I am looking forward to talking about it when I have book group.
Now it's your turn. Please tell me all about the book you are currently reading.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Powers
P.S. Remember that your grade depends on how much you write and whether you write complete sentences.

February has arrived!

Dear Sixth Graders,
I read all of your postings about Obama's inauguration. Many of you watched it and will always remember his first day as U.S. president. It was also fun to read everyone's reaction to all the snow we had in January. Some people love snow and even go snowboarding. Others hate the snow and try to stay inside. I'm a snow fan myself, and often I go skiing on my way home from school. There is an awesome place to ski halfway between Watertown and Natick, which is lucky for me!
Today I'm asking you to write about two topics. First of all, it's progress report day. Please tell me whether you are meeting your goals in school. Are you satisfied with your progress and your grades? We still have several weeks until your second report card, and I would like to know what help you might need. The second topic is to tell me what you are looking forward to doing next week during winter vacation.
Finally, it's Valentine's Day, and I hope you all have a delightful day and a wonderful week off!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Powers
P.S. Your grade for blogging depends on whether you write a few sentences about each topic, and if you write correct sentences.

The Four Day Weekend

Hi Everybody,
This is our first Sixth Grade Blog entry. The idea is simple - We will write to each other! The rules are very simple, too. Always use appropriate language and be respectful. Everyone is expected to participate once a week. You should read each others' blog entries and then write one yourself.

Here are some questions you can write about this week:
How was your weekend?
How much snow did you get, and did you enjoy it?
Did you watch President Obama's inauguration? What did you think?

Please take the time to use your best English so that we will understand each other!! This is NOT text messaging, it's real writing. :)

I can't wait to read your entries.

Your ESL teacher,
Mrs. Powers
